Analysis of the Role of the Moderator in the Focus Group Interview
—Based on a Case Study of the Talk Show Round Table Pi
朱啸
Abstract: Focus group interview is an important approach within the social and human sciences for its unique way to treat research objects as real “human beings”. It is a collaborative or interactional event in which the interviewer or moderator plays an important, participative role, which can be clearly seen in plenty of successful talk shows. This research chooses two episodes of a high-quality talk show named Round Table Pi as materials and its moderator Dou Wentao as the research object to explore his role in the focus group interview through a combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis. The aim of this research is to compare Dou’s different roles when talking with different groups of interviewees and to analyze the reasons behind.

The Relationships between Leisure and Happiness
--A Photo Elicitation Approach
笪舒扬
Abstract: Few studies have made qualitative analysis on the intrinsic relationship between leisure and happiness, though extant theoretical and quantitative studies have explored it. The photo elicitation approach was employed to visualize people’s conceptualization of happiness and the relationship between leisure and happiness. Visual data were collected among 132 college students in a course from 2015 to 2017 in an eastern key university of China. Participants were asked to draw three pictures depicting their happiest moments and make a narration of them. When, where, why and with whom do people feel happiest, and what activities make them feel happiest were analyzed. Then, the leisure elements and the implied psychological factors bringing happiness were interpreted. The study reveals that happiest moments are closely related to leisure time, spaces and activities. Relaxation, tranquility, achievement, autonomy, relatedness and interest are significant mechanisms bringing happiness. Practical suggestions were made to improve people’s leisure participation and happiness.

Autobiographical Narrative Research
SUN SITHIKA
Abstract: Notoriously difficult to define autobiography in the broader sense of the word is used almost synonymously with “life writing” and denotes all modes and genres of telling one’s own life. More specifically, autobiography as a literary genre signifies a retrospective narrative that undertakes to tell the author’s own life, or a substantial part of it, seeking (at least in its classic version) to reconstruct his/her personal development within a given historical, social and cultural framework. While autobiography on the one hand claims to be non-fictional (factual) in that it proposes to tell the story of a real person, it is inevitably constructive, or imaginative, in nature and as a form of textual self-fashioning ultimately resists a clear distinction from its fictional relatives (autofiction, autobiographical novel), leaving the generic borderlines blurred.
