Vice President Pang Xuequan inspected the preparation work for
the Undergraduate Teaching Appraisal of SIS
At
assistant director of Academic Affairs Department of ZJU, paid an official visit to SIS for the purpose of inspecting the
preparation for the Undergraduate Teaching Appraisal. The members of the party and administration of SIS made their
attendance at the report meeting about the preparation done for the evaluation.
Prof. Fan Jieping ，the Acting Dean of SIS, firstly gave an introduction of the development of SIS and the preparation work for
the assessment. According to his speech, much importance has been attached to this work by the Party and administration
leadership of the school. For the interests of all the teachers and students, the school set up 2 working groups at the very
beginning, one group for the improvement of the style of study with the school Party Secretary as the director and the other for
the improvement of the teaching style in the charge of the Acting Dean, making all efforts to prepare for the appraisal. The
cardinal idea of this evaluation has been fully put into effect, with thematic meetings on the Undergraduate Teaching Appraisal
having held at all levels in the School, including all the 12 institutes and all the classes of each grade. The preparation work is
bouncing along at the present time and the whole school is well prepared for the coming assessment.
Prof. Yin Qiping, Vice Dean of SIS, made a speech on the scientific research and discipline construction of the school. He
pointed out that the speech addressed at the 17th CPC National Congress demands greater efforts for the Cultural
Construction. As the thread of the development of SIS coincides with the guiding ideology of the Party Central Committee, the
school will keep on stepping up the development of scientific research, as hereto before. Looking back on the accomplishments achieved in recent years, he explained the working direction in the next session, the focal point of which is the further
enhancement of the quality of the scientific research, the promotion of the construction of the research group, and the
refreshment of the introduction of talents with all efforts.
In the report about the construction of study atmosphere, Wang Lingling, the Deputy Party Secretary of SIS, figured out that
with the everlasting emphasis laid on construction of study atmosphere, SIS always keeps the construction as the core-part of
the cultivation of the talents in order to turn out best talents as the prospective leaders with international vision. “To study
through Chinese and Western” and “To reach the utmost extension of the knowledge through intense study of the nature of
objects”, as the slogan of SIS, occupy an accurate orientation of the philosophy of the talents’ cultivation and a great sense of forwardness. SIS has taken a series of new measures for the reform and innovation in the recent years to optimize the
system and pay more respect to the individual development of the students. Thus, the “human-oriented” core of talents
training mode has been fully carried out and further more enhanced.
Prof. He Lianzhen made a speech on the employment of the foreign teaches and issues concerned with the college English
courses, hoping that much importance would be attached by SIS and the university to work out a practical solution to the
existing weak points in order to achieve the realization of the harmonious development.
After giving audience to the discussion of the core group of the Party Committee of SIS，Vice President Pang Xuequan
delivered an encouraging speech. According to his statement, as one of the focal units in this Undergraduate Teaching
Appraisal, SIS are obliged to spare no efforts to get fully prepared from all aspects to make the distinguishing quality and the
image of SIS prominent. Much credit has given to the achievements of SIS in recent years. Prof. PANG also spoke highly of the thoughts of the reforms in SIS, especially the idea of “working out the problems in the progress of the reform”. For the past
years, SIS has launched reforms in the administration system and the talents training mode and come to remarkable
accomplishment, resulting from the highly intensified reforming methods. SIS should accelerate and broaden the building of the existing reforms and step up strengthening the building of the weak parts in the work in the hereafter. In conclusion, Vice
President Pang Xuequan made his point that two relations must be emphasized and properly handled. Firstly, School must
figure out the relation between the widening of the reform ideology and building up the students’ abilities in their major. And
secondly the relation between construction of platform and the basic development of the discipline must be highly valued as
well.
