The Opening of the Lecture Series on“International Vision”--The 17th International Culture Festival of
On the night of Oct.10th, the dean of the SIS, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Steinmuller gave a lecture on “Foreign Language Study and Internationalization”in the Linshui lecture hall of ZJU, indicating the opening of the Lecture series on“International Vision”of the 17th International Culture Festival of Zhejiang University.
The lecture series on “International vision”, first undertaken by the Graduate Union of the School of International Studies (SIS) and the Students Association for Overseas Exchange (SAOE) of Zhejiang University, consists of a great series of activities, which is also part of the DMB (Doctor, Master and Bachelor) Festival of Zhejiang University. It has great support from the Graduate Department of the Party Committee. Prof. Dr. Ulrich Steinmuller, the dean of SIS as well as a vice-dean of School of the Humanities, a director of Institution of Language and Society of the Technical University of Berlin (TUB) was the main speaker on the opening ceremony of the lecture. Besides, Wang Linlin, the deputy secretary of the Party Committee of SIS addressed at the ceremony and Wan Zhengzhao, the president of the Graduate Union of Zhejiang University attended the opening as a distinguished guest.
Prof. Dr. Ulrich Steinmuller pointed out that one should have clear objective in learning foreign languages due to his experience. He observed that learning foreign languages was not merely learning the languages but the culture and the ideation. In addition, it was a good way to broaden our “International Vision”and to learn more about the world. Prof. Dr. Ulrich Steinmuller encouraged the students to speak more and grab any chances to learn languages, and he stressed only in this way could the students make great process. The opening lecture lasted more than an hour. Afterward, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Steinmuller answered the students’questions one by one with great patience. The professor and students had a very good communication and interaction. After the lecture, students said that they had learned quite a lot through the lecture and that they expected more lectures of this kind in the future.
In the following lectures, the Consul General of Uruguay, the school fellows who are working in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Yu Qiuyu and other well-known scholars will be invited by the Graduate Union of SIS to give speeches. SIS hope students be concerned about the Lecture series on“International Vision”.
