---The 17th International Cultural Festival of Zhejiang University (Foreign Language Festival) successfully held

With the advancement of internationalization and the rapid progress for the goal of a world class university, a good
commanding of international communication ability becomes the essential demand of a highly-qualified talent.
Therefore, to cultivate future leaders with general abilities and international vision has turned into an important mentality
of
of international training for the students and building a world leading university and driven itself forward at the basis of
its ever-increasing
subjects and influences. Under that condition, the former Foreign Language Festival was renamed the International Cultural
Festival, after the discussion between the School of International Studies(SIS), the Students Service Department,
the Department of Academic Affairs, the Youth League Committee of Zhejiang University and the Committee of the Party
and Social Work. The International Cultural Festival of Zhejiang University originates from the Foreign Language
Festival of Zhejiang University, one of the six official academic festivals in
From the Foreign Language Festival to International Cultural Festival, it is the proof of a better international vision of
people from Zhejiang University, and also a firm step of SIS on the way toward widening the vision of running the school
and exerting its special advantage in the cultivation of qualified persons for international affairs, with the great support of
the university and all walks of people in the society.
This festival formerly opened on November 21st, 2006, and successfully closed on December 19th. The whole festival
inherited the fine tradition of the former Foreign Language Festivals, while incorporating new elements into it.
At the basic notion of strenthening the promotion of international culture and the improvement of international communicative
ability, and with the theme of opening the international gate and listening to the voice of different countries, the festival
held following eleven programs:——the Translation Competition of Zhejiang University Anthem; The Magic of Language——
a series of multi-language translation competitions, a series of lectures on the international vision of university students;
International Communication Program and a presentation of the results of the exchange programs aimed at introducing
international culture and better international vision, SIS college training on Following the University Doctrine of Seeking
Truth and and Competition on the College Emblem; English corner named as English Salon——my club; the Dormitory English
Play Competition on My English, My Life; the Foreign Language Song Competition of Hangzhou at the slogan of Getting
Hand in Hand with the World with the Wing of Song. From the splendid beginning of to the formal conclusion of the foreign
song cometition, this festival came up with more extention and innovation over the former Foreign Language Festival, adding
more content, covering a more versatile fields, gaining more influence and integrating the cultural essence of many countries,
which heightened it to the international level. With the tremendous support of all the departments of the university, the active
cooperation of all the students and overseas students, the festival has brought great influence on Zhejiang University and
even the whole field of higher education in Zhejiang Province, achieving a full success.
The 17th International Cultural Festival of Zhejiang University closed in in a fruitful way, leaving a deep impression in
everyone’s mind. With the expectation of our audience, we will absolutely bring more surprise to you next year!
