From April 2 to April 8, Professor Zhang Yushu, the famous Chinese scholar in German studies from Beijing University, gave 3
interesting lectures in Institute of German Studies in Zhejiang University, on the invitation of Professor Fan Jieping, Acting Dean
of SIS and Director of Institute of German Studies. In the first and second lecture, Professor Zhang mainly introduced the
great poet Heinrich Heine and the characteristics of his poems. Professor Zhang enabled the audience to approach the fantastic
charm of Heine's poems by giving concise and humorous speeches as well as by reading the poems emotionally. Based on
Heine's poems, Professor Zhang also talked to the audience, most of whom were students majoring in German, about the skills
of language learning and literature translation.
The last lecture was about Zweig and his novel –"A Letter From An Unknown Woman", as well as his biography –"Josef Fuché”.
In his lecture, Professor Zhang went into details to introduce the whole life of Zweig and his achievement in literature, as well as his
thought a 'world citizen'and his attitude towards politics.
There were heated discussions in every of the three lectures. The audience, including teachers and students from both Zhejiang
University and Zhejiang Science and Technology College, were very active in raising questions and expressing their ideas.
The lectures given by Professor Zhang not only provided opportunities for all the audiences to enjoy the charm of literature, but also
they could learn a lot from Professor Zhang's easy –going character and his sense of humor.
