Professor Knerr was Awarded as Cooperative Professor of ZJU and Gave a Lecture in SIS

At 2 pm, March 11th, 2011, an academic lecture on the theme – “The Situation of Highly Qualified International Migrants in Germany“ was held in our school. Professor Beatrice Knerr, incumbent dean of the Agriculture Policy and Development Economics Department in Cassel University, delivered a speech. As a well-known German immigration expert, Professor Knerr deeply researches on European immigrants and social integration, population migration, immigration policy and immigration history. She enjoys an excellent academic reputation for making great contributions in these fields. Teachers, most of undergraduates and graduates in the Institute of German Studies attended the lecture.

 

Professor Fan Jieping, deputy secretary-general of ZJU, presided over the lecture. He made a brief introduction of Professor Knerr’s main research fields, and further pointed out that her research is realistic to Zhejiang Province where the number of immigrants is huge and deserves to be learnt. In order to promote academic exchange and cooperation between Germany and China, Professor Fan Jieping issued the letter of appointment to Professor Knerr as cooperative professor of Zhejiang University.

 

At the very beginning, Professor Knerr introduced the academic norms and process of this research, to build an academic framework for helping better understanding. Thereafter she revealed the status of international immigrants, especially the high-quality immigrants in Germany. From aspects of German population structure, immigration ethnicity, age structure, immigration policy and so on, this lecture offered the latest research data and analysis of the development trend of high-quality immigrants in Germany. In addition, she also discussed what Germany should do and some problems it might encounter in the process of attracting high-quality international immigrants under the circumstances that international talents introduction demand keep growing, competitions upgrading. After the lecture, Professor Knerr had a thorough discussion with everyone on issues such as the improvement of quality and the influence on German society and families.

 

Finally, associate professor Li Yuan, on behalf of the lecture organizers, gave thanks to Professor Knerr again. The lecture ended in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
